"Wherever the art of medicine is loved, there is also a love of Humanity." — Hippocrates

Leave a legacy of love.

Whole body donation drives much-needed medical advancements to life.

Also known as “donating your body to science,” whole body donation is one of the most meaningful, sustainable and generous approaches to the end of life.

For this reason, when discussing your funeral and care plans with your loved ones, we invite you to consider donating your body to medical research.

A Lasting Impact Through Body Donation

Donating your body to science allows you to make a meaningful impact on your community and your family, even after your lifetime.

Your contribution to medical science is only one small part of the benefits of whole body donation. The sign up process is easy for both you and your family, and it comes with no costs, either now or at the end of your life.

Why donate?

We’re with you every step of the way.

Here’s how the whole body donation process works, from initial inquiry to post-donation support for your loved ones.

  • The first step is to review the Donation Information Packet to ensure you fully understand the program.

    • Download the packet here

    • Request a copy to be emailed to you

    • Call us, and we will send you a packet by post

This packet provides all the essential information about the donation program and includes the registration forms.

  • Kindly Read This Important Information

Before signing the authorization forms, we kindly encourage you to take a moment to read through this information with care. It’s also a good idea to discuss your decision with those closest to you, so everyone understands and supports your wishes.

To complete the process, the forms must be filled out in duplicate and signed and dated at the same time by both the prospective donor and the witness.

    Once completed:

    • One copy should be returned to the A Love of Humanity office.

    • Please include a copy of a legal ID (front and back) for both the prospective donor and the witness.

    • The second copy, along with the rest of the information booklet, should be kept safely with your will or other personal documents for future reference.

After we receive your forms, your information will be securely stored by A Love of Humanity and only shared with the necessary individuals involved in honoring your generous decision.

If you have any questions along the way, we’re always here to help — with warmth, clarity, and respect.

  • At A Love of Humanity, we understand that planning ahead can bring peace of mind during life’s most difficult moments. Our Pre-Approval Program is designed for individuals with a terminal diagnosis, those in hospice care, or those with a life expectancy of approximately six months or less.

Through a pre-screening process, we assess medical history, complete necessary documentation, and provide pre-approval, ensuring that both you and your loved ones have clarity and reassurance.

To finalize acceptance, we will require both the Green Certificate and Death Certificate after passing. Unfortunately, without these documents, we are unable to proceed with the donation.

If you or a loved one would like to begin the pre-approval process, please contact us. We are here to guide you with compassion, care, and respect.

  • If a loved one has passed and is a registered donor, please notify A Love of Humanity as soon as possible by calling +44 (0)121 816 0360. Our team is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year to guide and support you through the process.

Guidance Based on Location of Passing

    • If the passing occurs in a hospital: The body should be transferred to and held in the hospital mortuary while the decision regarding acceptance for anatomical examination is made.

    • If the passing occurs at home or in a nursing home: A funeral director should transfer the deceased to a chapel of rest within 24 hours, where they must be kept under refrigerated conditions.

    Associated Costs

If the deceased is transferred to a chapel of rest, any associated costs must be covered by the next of kin or the donor’s estate.

A Love of Humanity will assume responsibility for expenses only once our appointed funeral directors take charge of the deceased.

We understand that this is a difficult time, and our team is here to offer support, guidance, and care throughout the process. Please do not hesitate to reach out with any questions or concerns.

    Assessment

A Donation Coordinator will work closely with the doctor issuing the cause of death certificate and/or the general practitioner to assess suitability for medical education and research. The next of kin or executor will be informed of the decision as soon as possible.

    If the Donation is Accepted

If the donation is accepted, the body must be received by A Love of Humanity within five days of death. To ensure a smooth process, the following steps should be taken promptly:

    • Register the death as soon as possible with the local registrar. The registrar will provide:

    • Green Certificate (Certificate for Burial or Cremation)

    • Copies of the Death Certificate

    • If the body is in a hospital mortuary, the next of kin or executor should take the Green Certificate to the hospital, as the mortuary staff may require it before releasing the body.

The following documents should be submitted to A Love of Humanity as soon as possible:

    • The Green Certificate (unless it has already been provided to the hospital or funeral director)

    • A copy of the Death Certificate

    • Medical Records of the deceased

Ensuring these steps are completed promptly will help facilitate a smooth transition and respectful handling of the donation.

If the Donation is Not Accepted

In the rare situation where A Love of Humanity does not accept a donation, the next of kin or executor will need to proceed with standard arrangements for burial or cremation. Unfortunately, A Love of Humanity is unable to provide financial assistance for these private arrangements. We appreciate your understanding.

  • At A Love of Humanity, we believe in open, honest, and compassionate communication every step of the way. Throughout the body donation process, our team will stay in close contact with you and your chosen point of contact to guide you through the logistics, transportation planning, and any personal preferences you may wish to share.

We understand how meaningful this journey is, and we are committed to handling every conversation with empathy, warmth, and respect. You're never alone—we're here to support you with care and clarity throughout the entire process.

  • After the body donation has taken place, Love for Humanity continues to provide support and guidance to the donor's family. We understand that this can be an emotional time, and we are here to assist with any necessary arrangements and address any concerns or questions you may have.
